Omni Walker

Omni Mandela Camilla Walker (meaning: All Freedom Queen) was born December 2, 1989 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Shirley Jackson and Vincent Gates. Omni is the eldest of four on her mother’s side, and the fourth of ten on her father’s side. Though her parents are not married, they have both played active roles in Omni’s life, contributing much to her strong-minded will to pursue and recover all. It was at the age of eight that Omni’s mother married her step-father, Carlos Jackson. Omni attended P.A.C.E High school throughout most of her high school years. While in High school Omni was a student worker as well as a student counselor. During the summer of her junior year she also supervised over her peers through the duration of the summer program. Upon graduating from high school in 2006, at the age of 16, Omni decided to attend the same institution of higher education as her parents, Central State University, to further her education. She is currently in her junior year majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in print journalism with the intent to minor in speech/theatre and broadcast media. She also speaks a little Swahili. Although she is enjoying her college experience she is looking forward to graduating in 2011. In her spare time she likes to travel and has aspirations to travel throughout Europe and the bordering Nations. She also enjoys writing short stories as well designing clothes for her future business.

In the summer of 2008 Omni became fed up with being a dead woman walking, however, she was not getting what she needed from her home church in order to stay focused on her walk with God. That winter, during Christmas break, searching for a change, Omni cut all her hair off and colored it, coming to school that spring semester with a new attitude and perspective of God. That January of 2009, Omni became very serious about her walk with God. She attended a rival at Church of Judah Family Worship Center, where her life was completely changed after being ministered to about designing clothes for women with low self-esteem, a desire she held secret in her heart since a young age. Within a week, she became a covenant partner with Church of Judah Family Worship Center in Xenia, Ohio under the pastoral care of Glendon and Tina Jones and she is currently active in the dance ministry. Though Omni may be young in age, she has grown to be wise in her walk with God. Omni’s purpose is to be an encourager of women. She believes that as she is tailoring women who come to her for clothing, she can begin to help them realize how beautiful they really are, by assuring that every piece of cloth lays on their body as if the cloth knew it belonged to them before it was made.

Omni wanted to prove to herself that she was serious about her walk with God, and therefore decided to participate in the Ms. Virtuous Pageant; no longer desiring to be a foolish woman, but a proverbs 31 woman. As Omni has come to know her worth she keeps this scripture close to her heart: Matthew 7:6 “Give not that which is holy unto dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet, turn and rend you”, realizing that she is a pearl, refusing to give herself to swine.
